Voicenotes portrays Puth’s true identity and talents.

This New Jersey-born male singer, songwriter, and producer first became “big” with the song “See You Again” Wiz Khalifa back in 2015. His first album, Nine Track Mind, featuring “One Call Away” and “We Don’t Talk Anymore,” have also jump started his music career. However, Nine Track Mind was someone else’s idea of who Charlie Puth should be, and how he ought to sound. With Puth’s new album, Voicenotes, it sounds more like him.

Voicenotes is named after the iPhone application that Charlie Puth uses. This album has a combination of pop and jazz that accommodates to the modern generation’s taste, but it’s also a sound of its own. Personally for Puth, it was an amazing experience because he was able to work on this album with the people who inspired him. He co-wrote and co-produced every song on the album in order to make sure that this album truly portray who he is; he is a man of many talents.

His album mostly talks about love, but there are other hidden messages in the songs as well. The following videos talk about his intentions and process of writing each song; they truly show what kind of artist he is. For example, when he wrote the song titled “Boy,” he wanted his listeners to be confused and curious because the title doesn’t really portray the point of the song. A particular favorite song of mine on this album is “Change” because it’s not about the love in a relationship but love between everyone; it talks about making the world a better place by changing ourselves and our ways of thinking.

This new album is a refreshing comeback from his previous songs because his sound is different but he maintains his originality, which is very important for Charlie Puth fans.
