Project 1 Ideas

For my laser cut project I want to work with layering colored acrylic and using LEDs to illuminated art that would be etched or cut into colored acrylic. My aim is to make something that stands out with it’s use of color which I can be achieved by the diffused lighting of transparent acrylic.

My first idea is to make a pinecone shaped lamp out of layered circles. The top and bottom sections of the lamp would be solid circles while the middle section would be cut out to allow for a mushroom to be lit up in the middle of the pine cone structure.

My second idea is an acrylic pyramid lamp with patterns cut out on the sides in order to be projected on the wall when the lamp is turned on. The pyramid would fit together with finger joints and be placed on a wood base that would be etched to resemble topography.

The third idea for the project is a decorative press fit acrylic housing for a Midi Fighter 3D midi controller. The end result would be a press fit box with a opening for chords. The sides would be engraved with art that would be lit up by a base of LED lights.
