I had the privilege to listen to Jessica Leitch speak in my online branding class. Leitch is the current author of the lifestyle blog: City in a Jar. Not only that but she is also the creator of Coloring Club.

During her talk: I got inspired.

I loved the look of her blog and the passion she has for what she does. I received beneficial information from her experience that can help me in my future career endeavors. She makes me want to blog. She described a blog as a portfolio. What you put it a blog showcases YOU. You have complete control of that blog. You create the content. You get to be your own “art director” as Jessica put it.

She continued with talking about how content you create may already be out there. “It’s the way you present your content and the voice you use to present it.” These words from Jessica revealed that you do not have to reinvent the wheel. Your content is not going to mirror others because you both have different personal brands. Putting your mark on your work will show your ability.

NETWORKING

As an aspiring professional you hear about how you should start to build a network. Jessica reinforced this thought with her talk. Her networking helped her blog take off and become what it is today. She was able to create such vital connections by attending events through Social Media Club STL. She also recommended finding people through the Treehouse Networkshop. She encourages us, as young professionals, to get out and start building the basis for a network. Who you know is important in our field.

A big thank you to Jessica for coming and speaking to my class. You inspired and educated the class with your experience and passion for what you do. Looking forward to seeing your future ideas and work!
