Fission, Not Fusion
‘The Global Village,’ what a positive sounding entity. It conjures images of unity, of community and togetherness. This isn’t inaccurate…, though when the idea was first presented by Marshall Mcluhan in the 1960's it was done with a dystopian standpoint. Mcluhan predicted the tribalisation of man and a loss of what makes us individual, and he wasn’t entirely wrong. With this Global Village comes a focus on the group, on being a part of the masses and gaining the approval of our points of view or interests that we once celebrated as the quirks that made us stand out.Hayley Davies3 min read
