Wouldn’t you want to live with a roommate who keeps their side of the room clean, who is respectful and courteous, and also someone who wants to succeed in college? I know I did. A lot of people do not want a roommate who is messy and inconsiderate, or chooses to party all of the time, instead of wanting to do well in college. Living with a roommate for an entire school year should be enjoyable and stress free. Many student’s success in college can be affected by their roommate. The people they align themselves with, are the ones who should be helping their success, not hurting them. Roommates are there for you when you need help and can guide you in the right direction. Your success in college is made by people who you surround yourself with. A good roommate will push you to academic success

How can people live like this?

Finding a great roommate does not mean you’ve gained a friend, it can also mean you have gained someone who is a positive influence on your success in college. A key area students want out of college is success. Success is finding your place and also knowing what you are going to do when graduating college. Roommates share a big role in your success. They can influence you in a positive or negative way. Aligning yourself with someone who wants to succeed in college and can help you with classes benefit you. Some people think that when they leave for college it is all about the freedom and rebelling on what you could not do living at home. Everyone goes to college to get an education that can benefit your career in the future. You pay for college, so nobody should take advantage of the education they are receiving. That is why living with someone who have the same morals as you will guide you in the right direction for however long you are in college for.

Choosing someone to live with, who does not want to put the effort in, and want to learn is not the best decision. What is even the point of going to college if you do not want to try hard?

There is no point.

Those are the people who will affect your success in a negative way and can lead you in the wrong path. For example, if you have a roommate who drinks and parties every night and does not care about school, is probably not the best roommate. Their work ethic may not be at your own standards. Balancing study time and social life can be difficult when roommates don’t have the same standards that the other person has. Also receiving a random roommate, you will not know if they have the same morals and work ethic as you do. Put yourself in a position where you enjoy the person you are living with and who cares about your success.

I think choosing a roommate is a crucial part in someone’s college success. You are living with that person for at least 9 months. Students who come in to college with the mind set of being successful know that the roommate they choose can easily influence their success. Everybody has to understand the risk of being put with some they are not comfortable, or do not think that person will benefit them. Finding someone who you know will guide you in your success and will provide a healthy environment is crucial. Roommates do affect the success of students in college because of the amount of time they are with them.
