Ram Trucks 2013 ad vs Budweiser 2014 ad
The first ad I chose is probably well-known by many individuals, the 2014 Budweiser Super Bowl ad. This ad has an amazing story line, involving a rebel puppy that keeps escaping to make its way to its horse friend. He escapes multiple times but each time he is put back. Toward the end of the ad the puppy is actually sold and it shows him crying in the car as they drive away, but a group of horses chase after the car before it can leave the ranch and gets the “new” owner to let the puppy go. They then make their way back to the ranch and live happily ever after. I would consider this ad to be sentimental. Since there is such a strong story in this ad, many may be confused as to what it’s for but if you pay close enough attention you will notice that the Budweiser logo is shown randomly throughout the ad, for example, the hat of the farmer. Since it’s clear this ad is a form of storytelling, it does have a beginning, middle and end along with a climax for when the puppy returns.
The second ad I chose was the 2013 Ram Trucks Super Bowl ad. I chose this people I loved the way the ad was designed and showed details about farmers and what they do. I wouldn’t necessarily consider it a complete story but it has a great background to it. This ad shows many different pictures of farmer and what they do on a day to day basis, while the pictures are being shown in the background there’s an audio of someone reading a bible verse about god creating a farmer and why he made such. I would consider this ad to be sentimental as well. This ad does a pretty good job at clarifying what brand this ad belongs to, throughout the add it shows pictures of hay on the back of a Rams truck and at the end it shows a main pictures of a Rams truck up close. Since I wouldn’t necessarily consider this ad a form of storytelling, it’s hard to tell if there’s a beginning, middle and end because it’s mainly just a variety of pictures that match up with the audio in the background.
I would think that people would most likely share the Budweiser commercial because it definitely hits you right in the feels (I myself shared in on social media). Although I really enjoyed the Rams Truck ad, I definitely think that the Budweiser is more effective at catching and keeping viewers’ attention. Last but not least, I believe the Rams Truck ad has a better narrative due to the audio describing such in the background, matching up with each photo.
