“Email has an ability many channels don’t: creating valuable, personal touches — at scale.” — David Newman

This is not a new term and I am aware that you must have read about this famous marketing tool as soon as you entered the online world. But the reality is that many still don’t use it. They still ignore it, thinking it is a long-term game that isn’t. In this, I will be telling you all about this secret tool that many online entrepreneurs (including writers) like me use in our businesses. It helps not only to get more sales but also helps to build trust among our readers.

What exactly is Email marketing?

“There is no formula for the perfect email — Authentic and honest messaging works”

Since the launch of Gmail, no one would have ever thought that it would become an important tool for any company to sell its products. Let’s not take company here. Writers. Solo writers. Solopreneurs. An important tool if you are working alone.

We collect emails from people interested in our topic or who share the same knowledge area and then use the emails to launch our products or promote them.

Wish I knew this before.

How To Collect Emails -

  1. Choose a topic that you have an interest in.
  2. Choose a social media platform. (Add more once you have at least500 subscribers)
  3. Give them good quality content every week in their INBOX.
  4. After three or four months, start promoting your own product.

80/20 Rule

“A small list that wants exactly what you’re offering is better than a bigger list that isn’t committed.” — Ramsay Leimenstoll

We all start with Twitter Marketing or YouTube Marketing or Facebook marketing and so on. But one thing where Newsletter Marketing differs from all these platforms is that the customer base is targeted. This helps to channel your energy to your targeted customers only.

Platforms like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, Linked, etc have millions of customer bases, and gaining viewership is easy on these platforms.

But have you heard a famous line -

80/20 Rule?

80% of the sales are from 20% of your followers.

You don’t need millions of customers or readers or viewers to make sales. You need a few followers to make a full-time income.

Why Email Marketing?

Two reasons that Email Marketing is ahead in this game.

1) Focused Readership or customer base

2) People DO read their emails daily.

I thought it was a joke because people check emails once or twice daily but as they are getting more into this online business, they kept on spending more and more time browsing through their inboxes. Let’s take our example. We all are readers following someone as well as writers. Doesn’t matter how many Email IDs we have, we always keep on checking them. Don’t matter if we receive emails or not.

Reaching a new customer base with new books is not an easy job. It looks easy at first but becomes tiring later on. I published several books but never thought about Newsletter Marketing before. If I have used it before then I wouldn’t have to reach a new customer base every time I publish my next book.

Two Ways To Do Newsletter Marketing

1) Either You Do It

2) Or Let Someone Else Do It.

Most probably if you are just starting out and have a good product with you then I advise you to find someone in your niche, with a large list of emails, and ask them to promote your work in their newsletter.

Free Newsletter Marketing When You Don’t Have A Big List

1) Find someone online who has a niche similar to yours.

2) They should have at least 2700 emails. The more the better.

3) Start an Affiliate Program for your product (ebooks in this case) and share a link with them to track their sales.

4) Have a generous percentage for them. Gone are the days of 10 or 12%.

5) Add your newsletter link at the back of the product description or the ebook. (Do not miss this one. You want to grow your own list too.)

Some Points To Remember -

1) Concentrate On One Affiliate Only.

2) Go direct for a 50–50 split. Win-win.

3) Add Your Newsletter Link at the end of the product

4) Increase the price and let your affiliate promote them at discounted rates.

As far as which newsletter company you should choose depends on what you need from them.

Are you going to make a paid newsletter in the future? Paid newsletter increases over time and there are lots of writers who are making money only through their paid subscribers. Most of them offer membership only at $1 for two or three articles per month.

Starting A Paid Newsletter. Increase Your Income Every Month.

  1. I bet you already have a topic, so skip this.
  2. Choose your Newsletter Company and complete your profile. Make sure you add a good description in your bio.
  3. Make Memberships tiers. At the start, I’ll advise only one at $1.
  4. Now make small contents for various social media sites.
  5. Drive traffic to your Paid Newsletter Page.
  6. Make sure you post content that is exclusive and should be at least 1000 words long.
  7. Answer your subscriber’s query within 24 hours. When their questions are answered in less time, they are more like to pay you for a longer time.
