I really love having online store where I can sell products I love the most.
Only my Instagram store sells physical products. Its a little hectic for me because there are so many things involved when you are getting into this e-commerce business. I always have to keep in check the product inventories, replacements are real headaches and deliveries can be time consuming some times.
But this is not at all the case with my digital product store. I mostly concentrate on ebooks but won’t advise anyone to limit themselves. You can experiment with different types of products and see which one you love creating the most.
If you enjoy creating it, only then you will be able to make a good income from it. This is the secret mantra!
What are digital products?
If you are completely new then let me help you out with this one. Digital products are just products available in digital form.
Example. Songs can be delivered in two forms.
CDs — Physical products
MP3 — digital product.
In this article, I’ll concentrate more on digital products. :)
Why sell digital products versus physical goods?
I already have both kinds of stores and I love them both. But there are some things that you need to consider before getting into this business.
- No Inventories with digital products — I have to maintain inventories for my music store (on Instagram) but that is not the case with my digital products store (on Medium and YouTube). I create products once and that’s it.
- Production cost is less. More profit — I make mostly ebooks and Google Sheets. So the production cost is $0.
- Flexible products — Ebooks and Google Sheets take time to create. If I happen to open more stores and don’t have enough time to create products, I’ll simply sell paid membership. This way I can monetize my business without creating any products. Simple. :)
Where to sell digital products
Now this is the question for many. I have written down the list where I sell personally.
There are two ways you can do so — marketplaces and your own store.
Marketplaces — Etsy, Amazon KDP
Your own free store — Gumroad, Payhip. I mostly use Gumroad.
10 best digital products to sell online
- Ebooks — My favorite one and makes 70% of my income right now :)
- Digital Templates — Started recently. I still have a lot to learn in this area. But if you are selling templates then do try out Etsy. Lots of audience there!
- Digital memberships — This is the best option if you don’t have enough time to create digital products. You can offer membership for $5/month to $50/month!
- Online courses — This is the most common way to monetize your skills. I love Udemy courses. If you are into this then you can sell your video courses on Udemy and even on Gumroad.
- Photos, Illustration — I sell on Adobe stock. Only 13 images so far and $7 in sale. Not much but the images were really simple ones.
- Software — Here you can sell any type of software of your choice — website themes, whole website, plugins, etc
- Music, art, and entertainment — Spotify lets you monetize your music through their subscription methods.
- Digital services — If you have any skill and want to monetize it then do try out Fiverr.
- Printable digital products — I bought my first printable (business template) from Etsy. This business is not going to go anywhere. Use Canva for this one.
- Resell — I have seen creators selling digital rights for their products. Not all do this. Do ask the creators before doing so.
