Many people keep business cards, you keep books as your business card.

Be in any field, doesn’t matter who you are, we all have a book in us. We all want to share our knowledge, and our experiences and motivate others through our stories.

And chances are that you must be thinking about writing it down someday and hoping that it would reach hundreds of readers worldwide.

But writing your first book takes a tremendous amount of energy and time. And to keep up with that, you need to answer a simple question before you begin writing your first non-fiction book — “Why are you writing a book?”

It’s not related to just the book but to any book. Why you are into books after all?

Let’s see some of the reasons why you want to write non-fiction books -

Being clear about your mission makes the journey easy for you!

Here are some of the reasons why people write non-fiction books.

1. You want to help people through your experiences —

This can be the number 1 reason why you want to write a non-fiction book. I wrote My Mistakes in Self-Publishing from my own experiences and this is helping other writers out there who are finding it hard to make their first dollar even after putting effort into their books.

Changes are that you too want to share your own journey through books. We all want to somehow manifest our self-growth in book form!

2. You want to build authority in your chosen field -

Now this is again the most common scenario as to why you are thinking of writing books. With books, you can not only build authority but also credibility and expert status in your niche and this will help you to open your doors to more business and media opportunities. Writing books is not just merely for making profits from books but also to drive your target audience to your other offerings. Many people keep business cards, you keep books as your business card. Simple!

For example — I have a book The Medium Program — Traffic, Engagement, and Revenue. I shared here my own Medium Journey. This book helped me to drive readers to my other books as well!

3. You want to dominate your niche with your books -

I won’t say that you will become a millionaire just by ebooks and retire early but many writers out there including me make money writing books only. Full-time or part-time doesn’t matter. Books are the best way to dominate your niche and reach more target audience without much effort!

4. Have an audience? Books will fulfill their needs which aligns with your own personal interests.

Chances are that you already have an audience or a small community and you really don’t know how to monetize it or lead them to your training and courses. Try to guide them through your books. You learn from the trial and error method and then lead them the direct way through your writing.

5. You have a book in you and really want to produce it badly

You have gone through certain experiences that you wanna share with your readers. Or you are deeply fascinated with a topic that you just wanna put in your own words and share with others.

For example — I have been using Fiverr for a very long time. My first client was a YouTuber who wanted me to write a short 10-minute script on the book — Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future. Many don’t know this but you can ghostwrite for YouTubers as well! So that lead me to write How I Make Money Ghostwriting for Youtubers and Writers

Conclusion

So this is it!

We all have our own reasons as to why we wanna write and get into the self-publishing business. Doesn’t matter whether you write fiction, non-fiction, or poetry. I am sure of one thing — if you put effort into your books then it’sgoing to be a masterpiece. Now, AI cannot do that for you, right?
