4 things Bollywood taught us this year
1. Sometimes, you can do the right things and have this still go bad
…just ask Ranbir Kapoor! Arguably one of the best actors of this generation, Ranbir gave some stellar performances in Bombay Velvet and Tamasha (both excellent films btw!) However, despite all his good efforts, he hasn’t had much commercial success this year. Hopefully, he can continue to believe in the process and not let the numbers affect him too much. This too shall pass!
2. Energy can be infectious
I need to be honest here: I used to be a bit sceptical of Ranveer Singh when he first came on the scene a few years ago. But after his performances in Ram Leela, Dil Dhadakne Do and now Bajirao Mastani, I must admit he’s doing a lot better. I think more than talent, I attribute this to his pure energy on the big screen! If you need any proof, watch Ranveer Singh dance to Malhari in Bajirao Mastani. Love it or hate it, his performance in the entire movie is just pure energy.. And it grows on you!
3. Talent and class can come together to create something beautiful
No need to look beyond Deepika Padukone when it comes to this lesson! While it was clear from her very first performance in Om Shanti Om that she was born to be a star, like a bottle of vintage red wine Deepika has gotten more graceful and believable on screen. She stands as living proof that the combination of hard-work, talent and pure class is hard to beat!
4. Some things never change
And finally, the one thing Bollywood keeps reminding us year after year — some performers will remain ageless and some things will not change! Salman Khan and SRK (most recently in PRDP and Dilwale respectively) continued to give hit after hit like it’s their job (which it is!) While the world continues to wonder how long the Khans can continue serenading young actresses on screen, the Khans continue to do so well enough for their films to join the 100-crore clubs.. Every-damn-time!
