Web analytics platforms classify information from the keywords and phrases entered into the search bar.

Search engines classify the source of traffic for the following:

• Email
• Social network
• Direct (referrer or source isn’t known)
• Referral (not from a major search engine)
• Other (doesn’t fit 1 of these categories)
• Paid search (user finds site by clicking paid advertising)
• Organic (unpaid traffic — not through advertising)

What is Organic Traffic?

Organic traffic refers to the search results displayed with no “Ad” next to the URL.
