This seems like an article written by someone that wants to be seen as an adult, someone who looks at the world at notices that she is surrounded by people that “have their shit together”.
I would say that women are definitely under more social pressure because of biological factors, woman are required to get their shit sorted if they want to have children, because post mid 30 child rearing is no joke.
It also seems that the article is written from the presupposition that the markers of adulthood is “…marriage, family, house, career- I…”, I would agree that these “markers” are not indicative of being an adult, what it would be indicative of adulthood is the choices made by the person that have those markers. Having the aforementioned markers would indicate that the person has made a decision that those things are important, it would indicate a sense of community and stability. Insurance companies for example are more trusting of people who are married and have children , because they tend to be more reliable and stable.
All the points mentioned between:
“Adults DGAF” and “Adults don’t apologize…well, for things they shouldn’t apologize for. And adults humbly apologize when they should.” seem to be more about virtues rather than a pattern of behaviour. It would be a very nihilistic approach to not give a fuck, adults are acutely aware of the results of their actions, adults would strive to behave in a manner that can benefit the people around them.
I would make a further argument to say that this statement ”They face responsibility for their own life, finances, diet, health, education” is contradicted by another articles alluding promiscuous sex which puts a woman at a social and biological disadvantage (You will not be perceived as a viable mate), which is irresponsible and that’s not adulthood .
PS: I would argue that we are all children and adults are children who have learnt how to be a good parent to themselves, children that have the capacity to bare the burden of their choices and take responsibility for the outcomes of their actions and holds others responsible by the same standard.
