Advantages of graphite electrodes

The advantages of graphite electrode are easy to process, high removal rate of discharge machining, and small graphite loss. Therefore, some customers of group based spark machine abandoned copper electrode and changed to graphite electrode. In addition, some special shaped electrodes cannot be made of copper, but graphite is easier to form, and the copper electrode is heavy, which is not suitable for processing large electrodes. All these factors lead to the application of graphite electrode for some group based spark machine customers.

(2) graphite electrode is easier to process, and the processing speed is significantly faster than that of copper electrode. For example, when graphite is processed by milling process, it can be processed 2 to 3 times faster than other metals without additional manual processing, while the copper electrode needs to be ground by hand. Similarly, if the electrode is made in a high speed graphite processing center, it will be faster and more efficient without creating dust problems. In these processes, choosing the right hardness tools and graphite can reduce tool wear and copper electrode damage. If the milling time of graphite electrode is compared with that of copper electrode, the graphite electrode is 67% faster than that of copper electrode. In general, the machining with graphite electrode is 58% faster than that with copper electrode. As a result, processing time is greatly reduced and manufacturing costs are reduced.

(3) the design of graphite electrode is different from that of traditional copper electrode. Many die factories usually have different reserves for rough and finish machining of copper electrodes, while graphite electrodes use almost the same amount, which reduces the number of CAD/CAM and machine machining. For this reason alone, it is enough to greatly improve the precision of mold cavity.
