OPTION C— Follow the music to the basement

(This is a choose-your-own adventure story, so if you didn’t just arrive from reading Part II, you might want to head back to this post.)

I have to follow the music. I have to know what it is — and why only I can hear it.

I run to the basement, and the music swells as I look down into the dark. I don’t really want to go into a dark and mysterious basement, but what choice do I have?

“Carlos! What are you doing?” Eliza says.

“This music — ”

There is no music!

I keep going. At the bottom of the basement, it’s so dark I can barely see. I move forward, nearly stubbing my toe on a piece of wood. There’s a glow up ahead, and it’s illuminating a small piece of paper on the wall. As I get closer, I can just make out the cursive writing:

This is the real curse. And it has been passed onto you.

I shiver. The real curse?

Suddenly, the music gets so loud that my head must be splitting open. I run back toward the stairs — where are Eliza and Frank? I thought they were behind me!

I know I left the door open behind me, but now the basement door is closed… and locked. “HELP! ELIZA! FRANK!” I scream, pounding on the door until my palms are raw. “I’VE BEEN CURSED!” But they can’t hear me, and I can’t hear anything but the music inside my head getting louder…

and louder

and LOUDER.

I guess I have to face the music: I messed up bad.

CASE CLOSED.
