These book recommendations might technically be for kids, but that doesn’t mean adults can’t love them, too. They have fun and engaging characters, and plots full of twists and surprises, and beautiful covers and captivating interior art. Hey, it’s not really stealing if you give it back, right?

Estranged

Come for graphic novel’s full-color artwork; stay for the breathtaking story. Rising star Ethan M. Aldridge is the rare artist who still creates all his panels on paper with watercolors and ink. With the adventurous siblings, faery magic, other worlds, dragons, and more, ESTRANGED is a fantasy adventure with all the makings of a classic. You won’t find the next great epic fantasy adventure in theaters or on streaming devices — it’s right here in these pages.

Peeves

Admit it. You have some pet peeves that drive you nuts. Now imagine if those pet peeves came to life and followed you around all day. That’s what happens in Mike Van Waes’s adventure-filled, hilarious debut novel. As Ernest Cline, author of Ready Player One, says, “Gremlins meets Inside Out in this sneaky parable about courage and self-control. Fun, funny, and surprisingly heartfelt.”

TBH, This May Be TMI

This awesome series by Lisa Greenwald is told entirely in text messages and is LOL (laugh-out-loud) funny. TBH (to be honest) your kid will love it, and you’re going to love it, too. You’ll laugh, you’ll learn some text lingo, and you’ll enjoy a heartwarming story told in a unique way. FTW (for the win)!

Notorious RBG

Does this one really need an explanation? It’s a vibrant, full-color book about the life and career of the indomitable Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Just look at the cover. Just think about the impact RBG has made. Have you started reading yet???

The Graveyard Book

Neil Gaiman’s story about a normal boy who lives in a sprawling graveyard and is raised by ghosts is a modern classic. In fact, it’s the only work to ever win both the Newbery (US) and Carnegie (UK) medals. If you’re looking for a captivating read with second-to-none storytelling, look no further.

Hidden Figures Young Readers’ Edition

Did you know the Oscar-nominated movie was based on a book? This book brings to life the stories of Dorothy Vaughan, Mary Jackson, Katherine Johnson, and Christine Darden, four women who participated in some of NASA’s greatest successes. It’s important for your kids to read about these heroes, sure, but you’re going to want to devour this amazing story first.

The School for Good and Evil

This series is for all you magical parents out there who love books like Harry Potter, Chronicles of Narnia, or Series of Unfortunate events. At nearly 500 pages, it’s no small feat, but the cliffhangers at every chapter will have you flying through the pages. You and your kids will love this engrossing, detail-rich epic!
