Actually Republicans offered a bill. It added due process provisions to the Dem bill. Due process? Because under the original bill, secret courts citizens have no access to could decide to deny any citizen the right to purchase a weapon, without even informing the citizen, and the citizen has absolutely no recourse to fight the ruling of the secret court. I, and many other Republicans strongly favor restricting weapon access for the mentally impaired, the criminal, and those an open court agrees may be dangerous. We don’t agree that our government has the right to arbitrarily deny that right in a way that leaves citizens no recourse to correct an error or fight a ruling. Recall people’s who couldn’t fly on a vacation because their ten year old was on a no fly list (originally created for non-citizens entering the country). A list no citizen can dispute, even in court in front of a judge and jury. That’s just wrong.
This woman is the first, and I think only person to have her name removed from the terror watch/no fly list. It took eight years, cost four million dollars, and she was booted out of the country almost eight years ago while working on her PhD at Stanford…https://www.rt.com/usa/rahinah-ibrahim-human-error-068/ and https://alumni.stanford.edu/get/page/magazine/article/?article_id=66231
