Actually with rapidly declining domestic birth rates, higher rates of immigration are necessary to ensure there are enough taxpayers to carry the public debt. Of course democrats primary reason for supporting legalization of millions of illegal entrants is to accelerate the demographic shift and bring about a permanent democrat majority. That doesn’t change the reality that if we don’t import more residents our economy will be in serious trouble. Republicans also remember Reagan’s amnesty, and the explosion in the number of illegal residents crossing their fingers hoping for another one. As for your assertion that illegal residents “can” file taxes, a bit of clarification. Illegal immigrants are very happy to get and use an ITIN. Why? Because due to a tax loophole, they can use that number to apply for dependent tax credits. Best of all, the children the credits are issued for never set foot in the United States. Many people claim eight or more dependents. According to a Treasury department IG report from 2011, ITIN holders collected more than 4.5 BILLION dollars in child tax credits per year. This paragraph will give you an idea of the scope of the problem. BTW, any IRS worker who complained about these payments was told to keep their mouth shut…

According to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), in 2011, the IRS sent more than $46 million in tax refunds to 23,994 “unauthorized” alien workers who all listed the same address in Atlanta, GA. The Atlanta address wasn’t the only one that received millions in tax refunds housing thousands; there were actually four addresses in Atlanta and six in other states that were issued anywhere from 1,846 to 23,994 tax refunds each. The TIGTA audit report was published last year at the request of Congress and exposed a problem Washington has been aware of for the better part of a decade.

CNS news.com broke down the report as follows:

The IRS sent 11,284 refunds worth a combined $2,164,976 to unauthorized alien workers at a second Atlanta address; 3,608 worth $2,691,448 to a third; and 2,386 worth $1,232,943 to a fourth.
Other locations on the IG’s Top Ten list for singular addresses that were theoretically used simultaneously by thousands of unauthorized alien workers, included an address in Oxnard, Calif, where the IRS sent 2,507 refunds worth $10,395,874; an address in Raleigh, North Carolina, where the IRS sent 2,408 refunds worth $7,284,212; an address in Phoenix, Ariz., where the IRS sent 2,047 refunds worth $5,558,608; an address in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., where the IRS sent 1,972 refunds worth $2,256,302; an address in San Jose, Calif., where the IRS sent 1,942 refunds worth $5,091,027; and an address in Arvin, Calif., where the IRS sent 1,846 refunds worth $3,298,877.”

Heck, federal incompetence is a bigger problem than illegal immigration.
