But along with the law abiding people living in your neighborhood, there ARE violent people killing your neighbors and their children. Those cameras do reduce crime and help police identify criminals. I live in a very low crime suburb. My neighborhood is saturated with security cameras, government, business and personal, and people are screaming for more. Fewer escape routes and lots of cameras don’t make me feel like an animal in a zoo, they help me feel safer because we frequently see them used to stop crime. The facebook group for my neighborhood posts pictures of door knockers, vehicles, delivery people and maintenance vendors almost every single day, sharing information, license numbers, headshots, etc. The names and numbers for the FedEx and UPS drivers, and the direct cell numbers for the police patrols are available in seconds.

While you’re sitting here bitching at the police presence, my neighbors are buying them coffee, getting our kids pictures taken with cops, stopping to say hello on the street, and working together to make our neighborhood as safe as it can possibly be. What we have no tolerance for are drug dealers, burglars, people who run traffic lights, or adults who stop their cars to talk to children, etc. BTW, my neighborhood is quite diverse, and my county is considered the most diverse in the country. The difference isn’t color, it’s attitude.
