We remember, we just don’t like political ideology that is as wishy-washy as it is vicious

I know it’s off the subject, but I just read Sujatha Gidla’s book Ants Among Elephants about growing up in India as an Untouchable, and she spoke about the Nizam of Hyderabad taking the first born male child of every Untouchable family in his kingdom as a slave. It also mentions the other doras kept slaves as well, as late as 1948 if not later. The book doesn’t make clear whether the doras were Muslim, Hindu, or both. I wasn’t aware that slavery existed in India that late, and didn’t realize the British helped perpetuate it.

Could you point me to some resources which could shed some light on the subject of slavery in India, especially in the twentieth century?
