What you are arguing is whether those people have a moral responsibility to gift their money to their fellow citizens simply because people like yourself have judged them harshly due to their wealth. (As if progressives had any use for morals.)
I’m arguing that a high level of progressivism is corrosive to society because it fosters a sense of entitlement and an accompanying sense of a lack of societal responsibility in one group while forcing another group to carry a much larger share of the financial burden. One’s income level should have no bearing whatsoever on an individuals level of responsibility to others.
These days it appears perfectly reasonable to force the one group to pay taxes at a rate far higher than their share of GDP, but at the same time it’s considered unseemly to ask those without the financial resources to bear ANY costs of the greater society, financial or or time, or labor, or sacrifice.
The social systems we have created are not bringing us closer together, they are driving us further apart.
