How does the Oselo Cryptocurrency help solve the global food crisis?
One step at a time — How will the Oselo token solve the world’s food crisis?
In October, a UN official tweeted, stating that a meager percentage of Elon Musk’s wealth could solve world hunger. In a surprise twist of events, Musk replied with his challenge: Explain how 6 Billion will fix the problem and that he’ll sell the Tesla stock right now.
While Musk’s tweet went viral across social media, it opened up focus onto an age-old problem that has existed for the longest time — the food crisis that affects nearly 161 million people worldwide.
With 690 million of the global population undernourished, the food crisis is an even more significant threat than all pandemics combined. Every 3.6 seconds, a child dies due to hunger, and over 30 million people die from starvation worldwide.
It comes as a surprise to many how such a pressing matter at hand goes unnoticed amongst everything else. The need for technology to come to the forefront of solving this age-old crisis should be of utmost importance. With Blockchain set to be the next disruptive technology that would take the world by storm, the Oselo cryptocurrency token is making a first of its kind to fix the global food crisis in its own way.
With the cryptocurrency boom of 2020, the digital social token Oselo can be the step in the right direction using Blockchain tech for good.
A never-ending crisis
The world food crisis isn’t anything new — just that it has shadowed all of the other technological advancements and the ‘so-called development.’ To put the situation into a better perspective, the COVID-19 death toll to date is at 5.22 million worldwide. The estimated number of deaths due to food shortage annually is 30 million.
The numbers worsen in selected countries, with nearly 150 million children worldwide suffering from malnutrition.
According to David Beasley, the UN Food program director and former Republican Governor of South Carolina, “there are more than 40 million people across 43 countries” who are on the brink of what the WFP calls a looming catastrophe.
Based on the current trend, the World Health Organization predicts that the Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG #2) (Zeron Hunger by 2030) will be missed by 660 million. The COVID-19 pandemic added insult to injury as the decreasing food shortage numbers saw a sudden increase.
Oselo’s Solution
Despite the 600 million deficit, there’s still ample work we could be doing to achieve SDG #2.
Introducing the $OSELO social token as a cryptocurrency that allows investors to come forward in owning this token. The name “Oselo” is inspired by the mother of the founder of the project, Pierre-Richard Augustin. Pierre’s late mother was fondly called Selo. Pierre’s parents were compassionate and caring individuals who always cared about the less fortunate, and this was a fitting narrative for naming the token “Oselo” in memory of their efforts.
Like other tokens in the market, the token is created on the Blockchain, but certain properties distinguish it from others.
- A 2% buy and sell tax within the ecosystem would go directly to a public charity wallet.
• The funds collected in the public charity wallet will purchase necessities and send across Oselo rice.
Through the public charity fund, the movement wants to have more families in India & United States — the localities Oselo is targeting as a pilot project with the food banks. In the long term, the project intends to go a step further and increase the reach to food banks worldwide.
Oselo’s objectives are straightforward — to hold on to a digital currency with value on the blockchain and, in return, contribute to helping scale up the purchase of rice (Oselo Rice) and pass on this revenue share towards the food banks.
In their drive to collect funding, Oselo will be export rice from India and the United States under the Oselo brand name, and the proceeds will then go to the fund that will help increase the number of families fed through these centers.
Oselo’s business proposition includes the procurement of high-quality scented rice along with 888 Craft Beers in their mission to curb global hunger.
The pilot projects will take place in the US and India, as the project aims to curb hunger one step at a time. In India, the project has partnered with the non-profit, No Food Wastage that provides surplus food to families in need in Coimbatore, in the state of Tamil Nadu in India. The organization currently supports 100,000 beneficiaries monthly in providing them with the essentials.
In the US, the project has selected Sunshine Division in Portland Oregon — a non-profit in existence since 1923. Sunshine Division was the livewire in providing essentials to the needy during the pandemic, and the program currently provides approximately 27,000 meals a week.
Oselo also invites Food Banks in the United States and India that are legally registered and are classified as tax-exempt organizations to join hands in the pilot project. Interested parties could reach out through the contact form or via the Telegram group.
Through its business model of Oselo rice, the project aims at bringing in revenue that could reach out to the two pilot projects and help them increase their coverage and reach out to more needy individuals.
Oselo looks at the long run through the business model, creating an entire ecosystem running on the Blockchain.
The Oselo Ecosystem
Oselo is an ambitious project with eyes on creating an entire ecosystem established for the greater good. Several developments are scheduled along the way to build a digital ecosystem of their own eventually.
Plans are in place to create a dedicated Oselo Wallet that holders could use to store their digital currencies. There is a separate Oselo marketplace in the works for individuals to purchase goods and services using the $OSELO token as well planned.
NFTs or non-fungible tokens took off in 2021, and there is no holding back. With Ethereum still dominating most of the NFT sales volume, new tokens such as Solana have made developments to create their own NFT marketplaces. One exciting development is the addition of Oselo Maker, Oselo Art, and Oselo NFT. The wallet will come to use in holding the minted NFTs.
There are also plans to introduce Oselo Games inside the ecosystem, where creators would get a percentage of the earnings off every game they create.
Oselo could easily replicate the success Solana created in a short stint to bring their own NFTs that could bring the SDG #2 goal closer.
