Are vitamin supplements a waste of money?
Vitamin supplements only help who need it. So if you have a medical condition that benefits from vitamin supplements, then it will help you. Otherwise, you are unlikely to get any benefits.
People who may benefit from vitamin supplements include:
- alcoholics
- those with eating disorders
- those with histamine intolerance
- those with POIS (Post Orgasmic Illness Syndrome)
- those on strict vegetarian and vegan diets
Vitamins that Should Be Avoided
- High doses of vitamin E taken daily is harmful. Dietary supplement companies have been marketing vitamin E for decades as a way to prevent heart disease. However, there is no good quality research to back up this claim. The scientific evidence suggests that taking high doses of vitamin E is harmful. Vitamin E is a fat-soluble nutrient, so it is hard for the body to get rid of the excess.
- High doses of folic acid should be avoided. If you take a B complex, choose one that has the lowest amount of folic acid.
