We, as Indians, have lived in the tyranny of the Arabs, Turks, Khiljis, Tuglaqs, Mughals, Portugese, and of course, the British, for millenia. Our entire history is written in blood, and yet, we resort to violence at the first excuse. It’s heart-rending to see that all our struggles have been for nothing, that we haven’t learnt a thing! What happened to kinship, unity, respect, humanity, and #humanism?
We prostrate ourselves before religious babas and make Gods out of monsters. So many of us still believe that wearing yellow, or any other colour, on a particular day of the week help us find our soulmate or cure an illness. Even in the 21st century, you get to hear news about human sacrifices being performed and little girls being married off to trees or dogs or whatever it is that the family baba recommends.
If we really cannot live our lives without the intervention of fake godmen, if we cannot spend a day without shrugging off all responsibilities and incapacitating ourselves, if we cannot have a life unless at the cost of others, then we really aren’t a superior species at all. Animals show more compassion and rationality. Shame!
