Paul Cattermole, former member of British pop group S Club 7, passes away at age 46

Paul Cattermole, a former member of the popular late ’90s/early aughts British pop group S Club 7, has died at the age of 46, as confirmed by a statement from his family and the band. Known for hits like “S Club Party” and “Don’t Stop Movin’”, S Club 7 rose to fame in the UK from their television show, Miami 7, and went on to achieve 11 UK top 10 singles, including four number ones, and won two Brit Awards.

The statement from Cattermole’s family and the band, as published by the BBC, reads: “It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved son and brother Paul Cattermole. While the cause of death is currently unknown, Dorset Police has confirmed that there were no suspicious circumstances. Paul’s family, friends, and fellow members of S Club request privacy at this time.”

S Club 7 also posted a message on their official Twitter account, saying, “We are truly devastated by the passing of our brother Paul. There are no words to describe the deep sadness and loss we all feel. We were so lucky to have had him in our lives and are thankful for the amazing memories we have. He will be so deeply missed by each and every one of us. We ask that you respect the privacy of his family and of the band at this time.”

Born on March 7, 1977, in England, Cattermole joined S Club 7 in 1998, alongside Tina Barrett, Jon Lee, Bradley McIntosh, Jo O’Meara, Hannah Spearritt, and Rachel Stevens. The group was formed by Simon Fuller, former manager of the Spice Girls. After achieving success with S Club 7, Cattermole left the band in 2002 to pursue his heavy metal band Skua, while the group disbanded a year later.

According to the BBC, Cattermole later struggled to find work after an onstage injury while starring in a production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He took on various jobs, including as a tarot card reader, before reuniting with his former bandmates for an 11-date comeback tour announced earlier this year.

In a statement, Simon Fuller said, “Paul was a beacon of light for a generation of pop music fans, and he will be greatly missed. We’re all deeply shocked and saddened by this news.”

The cause of Cattermole’s death is yet to be revealed, and fans and fellow musicians alike are mourning his loss on social media. The news of his passing comes as a shock to many, and his contribution to the music industry and the memories he has created through his work with S Club 7 will be remembered by fans worldwide.
