Individual Idea Generation:
Original Problem Statement:
Drivers who transport a large volume and variety of objects need organization systems that make use of spaces that are currently undervalued because their design offers no function aside from a flat platform to place things on (trunk, console, glovebox etc.).
How might we better organize automobiles so that they are better suited for the modern driver with specific pertinence to making better use of under-designed spaces such as the trunk, center console, glovebox and other various storage spaces.
New Warm-Up Game:
To get people comfortable and creative we played a warm-up game I created called ABC. The game follows a similar premise to Zip-Zop-Zoop, but instead of saying Zip, Zop, or Zoop you have to say the letters of the Alphabet when pointed at. To make the game a little more high energy we added a time constraint of 60 seconds to make it through the alphabet without error.

This session took place in my living room — somewhere that al the participants were familiar and comfortable with. Within the twenty minutes of actual brainstorming, the five participants (myself not included) produced 56 ideas total. This means the group averaged 0.56 ideas per minute per person.
Sorting and Voting:
For sorting and voting I used similar practices that we had in class. I had the participants silently sort ideas into nameless categories, and after they collectively decided on names for the categories. I then gave everybody a blue marker and a black marker. Blue dots signified that a participant thought the idea was creative and unique — every participant was allotted five blue dots. Black dots signified that a participant thought the idea was well suited for the prompt / problem statement.
10/18–10/25: Brainstorm ideas (individually) throughout the week and sketch them as they come in design notebook.
10/19: Invent new warm up game. Try it out with family or friends before the actual brainstorming session to make sure it generates energy & is well received.
10/21: Host five people for brainstorming session. Make sure to document well and keep energy high. Begin to sort by physically moving around sketches — then have member vote on what they think are the best ideas.
10/22: Consider reorganizing categories and ideas (individually) after brainstorming session. With other people’s as well as my own opinion in mind, choose the top ten best ideas from personal and group brainstorms.
10/23: Re-sketch top ten best ideas and scan them onto computer.
10/24: Upload all pictures to medium and begin writing and formatting blog.
10/25: Proof-read blog and submit!
