MIDSUMMER

Tawn arrived safely at the front of his apartment.
His mom’s car wasn’t there, so he wondered where she went.

Tawn searched the house and searched all around.
After awhile, he concluded she was nowhere to be found.

“Oh! That’s right. Today, Mom’s working late.
She said she wouldn’t be back ’til eight.”

Tawn looked at the clock and saw it was only four-thirty.
He obviously had no need to be in a hurry.

Tawn hid the hairpin in his room on the top shelf
then went to the kitchen to make dinner for himself.

He chopped up some vegetables and cooked on his own.
Then he sat at the table and ate them alone.

When he finished, he put his plate in the sink
then smelled a rotten and reeking stink.

Tawn crunched up his nose,
And then he cried, “Whoa…”

There were traces of white rice and fish sauce on every plate.
Whether the spaghetti sauce looked grosser, he couldn’t debate.
