So; what exactly happens during the angioplasty?
Your doctor will do an angiogram before embarking on the process. This will help him to look inside your arteries and determine the blockages.
Right at the start of the process you will be given a local anaesthetic. This will help in numbing the area. Then a superfine, medical grade, flexible, hollow tube (catheter) is passed into an artery in either your arm or groin. The tip of the catheter is equipped with a small and inflatable balloon and a small tube of stainless steel mesh known as stent. The doctor then passes the catheter to your coronary artery till its tip reaches a narrow or blocked section.
