Heart of the City- Binghamton
Heart of the City is a locally run podcast that aims to open communication with its listeners in the Greater Binghamton Area around issues that plague the city like marginalization, social, economic and food justice.
Binghamton has a deep history in capitalism, wealth, art and culture as well as a past riddled by the industrial downturn. Broome County, NY is now considered a “rust belt” situated in the Southern Tier of NY all by its lonesome.
However, the city is on a rigorous campaign to rise again stronger than before, if that is at all possible. In the past Broome County has been at the center of strikes, one of Americas greatest anti-union workers movements and was once home to the Square Deal and CF Johnson one of the 19th centuries greatest businessman. The area has also had its share of natural disasters; a number of times within the last 10 years, flood waters have had whole towns submerged. Heart of the City aims to shed light on the areas’ resurgence and to give some perspective into the Stakeholders & Community players who are all active agents of this change.

The mission and intent of this podcast is to activate the community with the information and instruction to advocate for themselves and others while being active and having a voice. It is evident that we do not all share one voice, many opinions exist.However, poverty does not escape everyone and we will be the proverbial “village voice” to ignite and incite change.
