I stepped outside for some fresh air
and a bird told me her story.

She tweeted and squawked a tale
about the beautiful nest she was
proud of creating. Every twig, straw,
and yarn picked with care.
A comfortable place
to keep her babies safe.
Her favorite is the blue ribbon,
it reminds her of flying in the sky.

She twittered about the four eggs she laid
and how she lovingly sat for hours to
keep them warm and protected
even though it caused her pain to sit so long.

A web of dreams in my mind, a broken and battered wish in my soul. How can my mind be so old and yet I’m so young? I am only sixteen yet sometimes I feel twenty, thirty, forty with the weight of the world bearing down on my conscience. Other times I feel so young and vulnerable like the ghost of a lost child that cannot rest. What am I to do with these emotions? How can I cope? Sometimes I feel like a girl with a heart so cold and closed to the world that surrounds me…

I’m upset with you.
I bleed on paper for you until I’m empty, dead,
and you don’t care.
After everything I’ve done for you.
You replace me so easily, misplace me, chew on me
leave me laying around.
How would you have written those postcard, checks,
and love letters without me?
Would you have remembered all those things
at the store if not for me?
Would you have showed up for that appointment if I hadn’t put it on your calendar? …
