This is such a great point — and the concept of sex as an exchange is so difficult to uproot. One of my favorite analogies that makes an effort to do so is Karen B. K. Chan’s jamming analogy. She portrays sex as improvisation and conversation at every step rather than an exchange. I also appreciate that she avoids cis/hetero centered conceptions of sex and leaves room for talking about many different sex acts and expressions of sexuality.
