If a tree falls in the forest, and no one is around to hear it….

That’s the age old question.

If a writer writes, and no one ever reads what they write; are they still a writer?

Would Leonardo da Vinic still be considered an artist if he would have kept the Mona Lisa locked in a closet, never to have been found?

What exactly defines a person as an artist?

Is it someone who posts about their accomplishments religiously on social media?

Is it someone who posts their fan-fiction on a blog?

Is it the photographer, armed with nothing but a camera and a dream; or, is it a person who writes epic stories in their journal that no one will ever read?

I give you, the Merriam-Webster definition of “artist” —

In my opinion, to be able to create a masterpiece, you have to practice.

Writing, like any other art is learned. The same as drawing, painting, photography, crocheting, knitting, or cooking.

You don’t get good at it unless you practice it.

You have to practice your art. There are some people out there who can break out an epic excuse for missing work at the drop of the hat. There are people who can draw a portrait of you on the spot, or crochet you a baby blanket as a last minute baby shower gift. Probably even bake you a cake 4 hours before a forgotten birthday party.

But, I guarantee, they’ve been practicing their craft. Even if it’s been a secret. They’ve been practicing.

Keep writing, drawing, painting, cooking, photographing, knitting…

Even if no one else knows you’re doing it.

YOU, are a writer, an artist, a painter, a chef, a photographer — YOU are an artist.

KEEP PRACTICING.
