Limbo is a parkour/obstacle type game in wich you try to get through the map by avoiding things coming at you or jumping ur way over obstacles. One moment that stood out to me so much was when i first encountered that giant spider . The sound plus the use of only white/black contributes to this sense of danger. As you navigate through the game, the spider becomes more than just an in-game obstacle. It’s a symbol of fear and the unknown and the creators knew this, as it feels like limbo has a very unique approach to storytelling, where actions and what you see speak louder than words and what you hear , letting you really feel the emotions of the game.

When compared to movies and books, movies use visuals, sound, and dialogue to tell a story. Books rely on language to paint a vivid picture in your mind. Finally, the way stories are told depends a lot on the medium(the way in which a piece of writing is delivered) where different styles of gramar can lead to a different picture being painted in the head of the reader. Video games, like limbo, use visuals but also the aspect of the “player” , letting you actively shape the story. Additionally , Limbo’s lack of a clear narrative lets players interpret the game in their own way, making it a more immersive experience.

To conclude, Limbo is a shining example of how video games can tell a powerful story without saying or doing much its simply a game that tells its story as you complete it. Very different to the likes of movies/books/stories and comparing these lets us see the beauty in the diverse ways stories can be crafted and experienced.
