Brazilian teenager drawings
Call attention to the curatorship of the Louvre
The drawings of 15-year-old Hector Angelo make room in the most prestigious museum in the world and will be exhibited at the Paris Art Week.
Austrian art critic Heinz Playner liked what he saw on the social networks of the writer and artist from Goiás, Hector Angelo. The boy’s colorful drawings drew so much attention from the curator of the Art Fair — Carrousel du Louvre that he was invited to exhibit his works at the Louvre Museum during the Art Week in Paris from 20 to 22 October.
Even though he devoted all his childhood to literature and art, the teenager did not believe that he would receive such an important invitation. “Not even in my more distant dreams did I imagine that the Louvre would open the door to my art that protests against prejudice and struggles for social, sexual and racial equality,” says Hector.
The collection entitled “I AM THE PAIN” that originated the invitation is a portrait that the artist makes of the suffering of the victims of intolerance and discrimination. The drawings represent the pain of those who suffer from Homophobia, Transphobia, Gordofobia and Racism. The young man was able to express the cruelty of prejudice, sadness and fear of those who are rejected daily because of their sexual orientation, their race and not being in the pre-established “standard” of beauty.
In spite of his young age, Hector Angelo is the author of five books, the first one published when he was 7 years old, also collects in his curriculum important literary achievements like the Prize of the Sociocultural Association of Lisbon by his third book “The Transformation of Joca” And had its text published in the Third Antologia Antrego -2015, the presentation of its titles in the London Book Fair, in the Meeting of Writers of Portuguese Language in Lisbon and in the Book Fair of Berlin.
Hector Angelo’s latest book “After the Happy End” a deconstruction of the image of Disney princesses that draws attention to female empowerment, will be released at the Canada Book Show in September and is nominated for the 2017 Literature Award at Category.
“With my art I want to emphasize the importance of differences for the world and to carry a message of peace and respect. I am happy when my work gains the opportunity to be exposed to many people and many places, because the more people have access to my art, the more chance I have of achieving my goal that is to combat prejudice and make the world better to live “Summarizes Hector Angelo.
It is evident that the young person’s purpose is to promote a change of mentality rooted in society and culture. Without a dull militarism the artist has managed to draw attention to social causes. Now Angelo launches the book After the Happy Ending and raises the cause of female representativeness.
“Happily ever after” never satisfied the writer and led him to reflect on those endings that are neither the end nor are they always happy. The reflection widened and made him analyze the posture and lack of purpose of the princesses of the fairy tales.
The passivity and stereotype of the princesses began to annoy both the young man who inspired him to create new stories for these women. First Hector deconstructed the “perfect” aesthetics of the princesses, added strength, put a pinch of daring and made them real women, personality, dreams and goals.
She addressed the issue of women’s empowerment by placing the princesses to fight against arranged marriages by taking on new forms of love and deciding that they have followed paths that run the rules of society.
Courage is not lacking for Hector Angelo’s princesses, in this book he proposes to show the other side of the Happy Ending, the one about which we do not speak and even imagine.
