Herndon Coming Back Together — Clark’s plan for post-COVID recovery
Establish a Meals Tax holiday. The holiday will help Herndon’s families to recover from the pandemic and reestablish Herndon as a local food and dining destination. Like any consumption tax, Herndon’s 3.75% meals tax is regressive — disproportionately burdening the town’s lowest income residents. These families, along with many beloved Herndon businesses, have been acutely affected by the economic disruption caused by the COVID pandemic. With a diverse array of options available just outside Herndon in almost every direction, diners can easily choose to save by traveling a short distance. That means lost income for our restaurants, bars, and surrounding retail establishments. This temporary tax break can and will be implemented without any reduction to Town services or personnel.
