Tunes & Friends

Even before I started programming, I thought that there should be an app or website for musicians — a social site where you can list the tunes you know and then see what tunes your friends know. When you are at a session or a jam you can get inspiration and not have to remember all the tunes by heart, it can’t be just me who has problems with spontaneously coming up with tunes to play. Some are tunes machines, but I am not.

When I then started to learn programming, I often thought about when and how I would tackle my big music project. It felt like I would never get to a point where I knew enough about programming to be able to write such a website. When I had come so far in the education that we would start thinking about the final project, I knew exactly what I wanted to do — and I also felt competent enough to implement my idea I had been mulling over for a long time, finally!

During my parental leave, I have managed to make a website I can be proud of, a page I hope I can develop further and develop together with— a site like this will probably never really be finished. The goal is for it to be a social forum where musicians meet and share their tunes, a given encyclopedia at the session when you want to start a tune.

A big thanks to The Sessions great API

My site is largely based on The Session’s open API, where Jeremy Keith (the founder of The Session) generously shares all the data he has collected. All tunes on my site are based on The Session’s large database of tunes and information about the tunes. Thank you, Jeremy, for being so gracious and helpful!
