10 Must Listen to Podcasts for Christian Thinkers

Here are some of my favorite podcasts for learning and growing in Christian thinking and theology! Check them out and share God's wisdom!

Podcasts might just be the most cost effective way to broadcast to a large audience and take in quality, narrowly focused information. While I love reading, I highly recommend listening regularly to podcasts that provoke you to think and give you a healthy view of the world.

I’ve written previously about blogs (10 Male Bloggers You Need to Follow and 10 More Male Bloggers You Need to Follow) and podcasts (9 Christian Leadership Podcasts You Need to Be Listening To) that I love and would recommend to others without question.

Today, however, I want to share with you my top ten podcasts for christian thinkers. I recently wrote about deception (Don’t Be Deceived!) and I believe the antidote to being deceived is to study the genuine source of our faith and salvation. This is what I mean by Christian thinkers. They are those that want to understand God, the Bible, theology, doctrine, and practical worldview. And I sincerely believe that the following list of podcasts will help you do just that.

#1: The Briefing

This is, and has been for years now, my favorite podcast. It is a daily (Monday — Friday) podcast from Dr. Albert Mohler, president of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. In each 20 minute episode, Dr. Mohler discusses current topics in Western culture… but he does it all within a strong, Christian worldview, explaining how the Bible and theology interact with current topics and how to stay true to God in a time of moral confusion.

*Dr. Mohler takes a month break during the month of July.

#2: The Expositor

This is a quick (usually less than 10 minutes) podcast that takes biblical teaching topics and breaks them down into bite size, easy to understand segments. If you are trying to engage culture, whether from the pulpits or from the streets, Dr. Steven J. Lawson has practical tips for teaching the Word accurately.

#3: Help Me Teach the Bible

This, like The Expositor, is all about engaging culture with clear Christianity…but the episodes are much more in depth and usually run 45+ minutes. Nancy Guthrie hosts interesting interviews with well known pastors and authors hitting a wide range of topics.

#4: Ask Pastor John

I love this podcast because is question and answers with one of the most renowned theologians and pastors of our time, John Piper. Each week you will get a biblical answer to relevant questions from real people. The combination of biblical wisdom and passion is sure to invigorate your mind and spirit.

#7: Chapel — Southwestern

This podcast is a weekly (according to semester schedule) teaching from the chapel service at Southernwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. This podcast is very similar to that of Chapel — Southern with some of the greatest baptist theologians of our time and it leads to some very interesting and engaging biblical teachings.

#8: The Summit Church

Pastor J.D. Greear and the Summit Church in North Carolina are legit! I love tuning in weekly to hear their sermons as they unpack biblical wisdom with a combination of wit and enthusiasm. I would highly recommend this as a weekly listen, but if you are looking for a good introduction, I would step back to 2016’s sermon series where they took the entire year to go through the Bible as a church!

#9: Thinking in Public

This is another podcast from Dr. Albert Mohler and it is worth the monthly download! The title says it all. Each month Dr. Mohler hosts an interview with a public, Christian thinker that is always engaging and insightful.

#10: Preaching and Preachers

Dr. Jason K. Allen, president of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, hosts this weekly podcast with interviews and discussions about relevant topics to preachers and the art of preaching and sharing the gospel.

Bonus: The Daily

Everything we have seen so far is all explicitly Christian. This, however, is not. The Daily is a daily (Monday — Friday) podcast from the New York Times. Each morning they put out a news podcast that is engaging and extremely left and secular. I add this, however, because I don’t want to get too out of touch with our society. I want to understand the arguments and the logic that secularism is using to spread their agenda. I’ll admit, it’s hard to listen to at times because all you want to do is scream “No!” as they ramble on their worldview, but I find it insightful.
