Don’t Grow Weary…Contend for More of God!

Growing Weary

It’s easy to grow weary in your Christian walk. We serve an invisible God that mostly whispers to us! And we are constantly confronted by a passive, anti-God culture. As if that weren’t enough, Satan and his host of demons are always seeking ways to separate us from God.

I believe that the biggest reason we grow weary is because we become disconnected from our true source of life. We run to Jesus for salvation but turn to ourselves for day to day life. But that’s not what Jesus said to do.

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. — John 15:5

It’s not enough to get saved and then only connect with God once a week. We have to stay connected and keep our vision focused on God and His future for us.

And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. — Galatians 6:9

God Has So Much More for You

Recently I’ve been spending some time and energy studying the Song of Solomon. Aside from the natural interpretation and the beauty of marriage, I’ve come to see the depth of revelation of God’s love for us in the spiritual interpretation. Now, you may be like I used to be and think that the Song of Solomon isn’t worth studying and that anybody who does must be a bit weird. I believed that for a long time. But I really felt God leading me to study it and listen to others who had and the revelation of how God loves us is overwhelming.

And here’s the conclusion I came to: even if this spiritual interpretation isn’t what the Holy Spirit had in mind when He inspired Solomon to write it, if it draws me closer to God and reveals more of His nature, then it’s worth it!

Throughout the Song of Solomon we find the woman, who is in love with and pursuing the King, weakly saying yes to Him or refusing His invitations. We see ourselves in her actions. Yet, the King (God toward us) continually affirms her beauty and calls her into deeper intimacy.

The simple truth is that God has so much more for you and me!

(for more information on the Song of Solomon I would highly recommend Mike Bickle’s study)

Contend for It

If this is true, then I want to encourage you to contend for it. God loves you so much…but you won’t experience without connecting to the true Vine!

Get ruthless. Eliminate the unnecessary and harmful things in your life. Give extravagantly to God. Read more of the Bible. Study your Bible in more depth. Dialogue with God about what you are reading and what He is whispering to you.

Whatever you do, don’t give up. Don’t grow weary. If you find yourself weary, do a 180 and pursue God!

And don’t forget to connect with your local body of Christ, submit to your spiritual authorities, and mentor and teach those who aren’t as far along as you are!
