Wow, Alexainie. This is really powerful, and you’ve brought such a clarity to the conversation. I went with “Max” to an Al Anon meeting as his guest, and I was able to witness family members talking about their experience with alcoholic loved ones. Everyone was at a different point in their own personal recovery, but everyone was irrevocably broken. I guess we all are, in some way. But being an alcoholic’s loved one is a special kind of pain — many have to pretend, as you said, that everything is just fine. They have to live every day, unable to reach out to someone and depend on someone. They have to be their family’s bedrock, while they are crumbling themselves.
