10 tips to beat the dieting blues!

Now is the time to set yourselves a few goals for 2015 whether it be fitness, health, work — just have some targets to channel your energies through what can be quite a wet weather time of being stuck indoors.
Are you embarking on a healthy eating plan for 2015 or trying to lose weight after the festivities?
Here are 10 useful tips to help you beat the dieting blues:-
- Don’t call it a diet for a start, say you are adopting a healthier lifestyle! A much more positive affirmation.
- Read your food labels, know what is going into your body.
- How often do you eat? Do you ever get to feel hungry? Try it, see how you feel eating this way.
- Exercise — yes we have to do it but do something you like and don’t just look for the quick fix that may cause you pain rather than gain and actually wind up putting you off fitness!
- Have a goal. Don’t set out with a random I’m going to lose weight. This doesn’t give you any target or timescale and you will need to weigh yourself to start with or try measuring. If there is no starting point, you cannot see how well you have done!
- You will need a plan to reach your goal. You will need to get organised. Do a meal planner, set a schedule and stick to it. Plug it into your phone/diary.
- Don’t be impatient and don’t compare your progress to others.
- Take a look at what you are actually eating. Do a food diary for a few days and see exactly what is going into your mouth — it might be more or less than you think.
- You must eat nutritious food. Your body needs a bit of everything carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, water and not forgetting fibre. Go for unprocessed food as much as possible.
- Don’t beat yourself up if you have a bad day. We are all human and stuff happens. Allow for this in your goal setting so you don’t put too much pressure on yourself to reach your goal in too short a space of time. Losing about 1–2lbs a week generally ensures longer term, more sustainable results than really fast weight loss.
