Are you primed for the week?

I’ve been listening to some talks by Tony Robbins, a motivational speaker, and one in particular resonated with me so I thought I’d share and see if this helps you have a more productive and positive week.

In his talk, he mentioned how we are primed for action each day more often than not by other people’s actions and the external environment because of what we let affect us each day.

I gave this further thought and yes if you get up without a plan about how the day is going to work, you might have a good day, you might get through stuff, but you also might find that you achieve nothing at all because rather than have a focus, something happens that then affects your mood and your motivation.

I have a to do list as I’m sure you do. Do you write it down? Do you give your to do list a timeline? Is it really much of a to do list or a I’d like to get this done maybe sometime in the future?

How can we try to ensure that we have a better day, every day and maybe get through some of our ‘to dos’?

It’s really quite simple and although you might say it’s the kids holidays now, how can I fit this in, just get it done first thing as you wake — 5 mins that’s all it needs to take, surely you have that much time, don’t you, to get yourself primed — not by anyone else but you.

Start with some deep breathing maybe, and focus your mind on what your day is going to be like — great. That’s a start just telling yourself the day will be great. You can then add on how you want that day to progress — for example, I will get my 5 mins of training done and then state when. I will visit family and state when, I will not let the traffic build up annoy me, I will find another focus if that happens.

We all have the ability to turn a negative into a positive, if we really want to that is.

So first thing in the morning I will get myself primed with at least one goal each day. What will it be for you? My goal might be to hold a handstand longer than I did last week, it might be to avoid having too many coffees as I will be home more often. It could be to get filing done.

I am going to set each day up for success with easily achievable goals and also allow time for me to do stuff with my son as much as possible when he does want to do things with me, which is not that much as he is 14.

This summer I have no intention of losing the gains I have been making with my health and fitness so far this year so I am going to make myself very accountable and have already said to friends about training when we are away so I don’t get lazy. I too like to have a lay in and holidays can easily overload in this regard, especially if you have a wine or two!

Okay so are we ready to get primed for action?

Set your alarm to wake you five minutes earlier if you feel you haven’t much spare time — sit on the edge of the bed, have a note pad next to you, write down three things — one is something you need to achieve today, one is that the day is fab, great, or however you want to describe it, the other is being thankful for something.

In the next 3 minutes breathe and focus on these three things. With your task take a moment to plan how you will get it done, with your day just look at how it can be a happy one, with your gratitude there will be loads or there should be that you can be thankful for.

Now get on with your day and then just before you go to bed, review your day without negativity and note if there is room for doing things differently to improve how things went.

See if you can keep this daily practice up because it really does set you up for a much better day and you will become far more productive.

Let me know how it goes and have a great week.
