Frick Collection — A place you should not miss
If you ask what museums in New York are popular, I guess the most common answer is Met, Whitney, MOMA and Guggenheim. Indeed, New York is ideal for adventurers, artists and musicians for its diverse, innovative, colorful cultural activities. Yet, if you really want to have an authentic glimpse of the City arts, I highly recommend Frick Collection, an amazing museum known by minority.
Bonus— First Free Friday in November
Thanks to my great friend who suggests me to take a tour to Frick. I am very lucky to have friends of good taste and always get the best advice from them. It is my pleasure to have a marvelous trip to Frick Collection and absolutely I will visit more! A serendipity to have a free visit on the first Friday of November! Bonus which I did not expect!

Recap — Origin and History
Frick Collection was assembled by personal house of Pittsburgh millionaire Henry Clay Frick (1849–1919) and opened to public in 1935. The museum is famous for “Old Master paintings and outstanding examples of European sculpture and decorative arts”. There are many exclusive pieces by famous artists. One of them is by Vermeer — Mistress and Maid, which is said to be the last painting bought by Mr. Frick. Also, St. John the Evangelist by Piero is also invaluable with few works available in the nation.
Love — Elegance with Hope
I was really impressed with the work “Mrs. Elliott” by Thomas Gainsborough. I stood in front of the painting totally forgetting time until my friend came to find me. The elegant woman with rosy cheek and tender smile is so charming. It is soothing and hopeful. Even though I did not know the story of this painting, I still regard it fascinating. Languages, customs, geography, beliefs, and history are different among countries. Yet, art is boundless. No matter where you are and what language you speak, you could always appreciate arts.
Serendipity — Free Style Artist Today
The museum provides paper and pencils for visitors in the central green garden with fountains and plants.

I chose to draw the picture of this lady with smile and hope. The picture was very sophisticated. Different skills are applied to deal with complicated lights and shadow. One hour is not enough to have a preliminary sketch of the piece.

Time really flies! The staff came to remind it was time to finish painting. The whole process was so enjoyable. It was my pleasure to have a very focused time doing something not distracted by anything.
Nearly forget when is my last time doing things so passionately. Sometimes, it is necessary to change environment to “think out of box” and make progress in a more sensitive way.
Journey to Start and Continue

No matter how busy you are, do not forget to look at the world surrounding you. It is so charming that all the toughness is worthwhile. Love life and love yourself.
I have not painted for so many years after high school even though I started to learn Chinese painting since six years old. Yet there is something deep in my heart that will never fade away — the passion to express love for the life.
Special thanks to my great big friend Eric! Thanks for suggestion and will explore more!
