Expressing Man as Art — A Case Study of The Mo’Black Man

What started as a journey to discovering a skincare product that works eventually became Mo’ Black; A Skincare brand passionate about helping humans in the world see they are “fearfully and wonderfully made”.

The new product line focuses on helping men look and feel their best. Our mission is to communicate the brand’s core values to a more focused Market “MEN” ­­­­­­­­and drive the brand’s growth.

We believe in Mo Black’s core values, which enabled us to find a distinct way to communicate it. After lots of research, we worked with the brand’s vision, creatively modifying and amplifying its message: Man is Art; just like art, Men are fearfully & wonderfully made by the creator, therefore we shouldn’t try to change what is already perfect.

To create a narrative around this concept, we highlighted the importance of seeing the skin as being perfect in its imperfections.

The story begins with a black statue, to signify man, whose skin peels off to reveal more than what meets the eye; gold.

Relating this to the brand’s core value of how we are perfect in ourselves, we did extensive research about statues made by renaissance artists, and we developed our own distinct look.

STORYBOARD

It took three months to produce the final results; we were faced with many challenges during the process. Most of the problems came from getting a clear understanding of the best way to communicate the brand’s value to its new target market. So we took our time to research the target market and understand how the brand adds value to them. This knowledge helped us create a visual narrative to express these values.

MOODBOARD

This campaign launched on the first of June and the feedback has been amazing.

Nevertheless, we are taking our time to understand the consumer market, their needs, and expectations, whilst making necessary adjustments to aid better results in the nearest future.
