How Coffee Chats Work

Skilbi Coffee Chats?
As mentorships have primarily moved online, your access to people from various industries and expertise has greatly increased. Taking advantage of such a feat, Skilbi has made it easy for you to directly connect with a potential mentor. Like an in-person coffee chat, the purpose of this tool is to have a one-on-one meeting with someone you hope to learn from and hope to build a mentor-mentee relationship with.
Where to Start
Before you send your first Coffee Chat request, you must create a Skilbi account and create a few SMART goals. All you have to do is go to your dashboard click on SMART Goals. From there, you can either start a tutorial on what SMART goals are and how to make them or you can skip the tutorial and start creating your goals. You will be able to add goals in three different categories: personal, academic, and career. If you need more information about SMART goals click here.
After SMART Goals
After you create your SMART goals, you can head to your Skilbi Mentor Hub and you will see a list of potential mentors. After viewing their interests, skills, and experience, you can chose which mentor you would like to speak to. Then once you decide on someone, all you have to do is press “Coffee Chat Request” which will then allow you to choose which SMART Goal you would like to share with your potential mentor. Under your SMART Goal, you will have a space to write them a personal message. Here, you should explain a little about who you are and why you are interested in them. You can include some details on their Skilbi that made you want to reach out to them. Once you hit the submit button, you’re done!
Simplified Steps
- Create a Skilbi profile
- Create at least one SMART goal on your dashboard
- Go your Mentor Hub and find someone that interests you
- Click on “Coffee Chat Request” under their name
- Choose a SMART Goal
- Write a personal message to your person of choice
- Then click “Submit”
- You’re done! All you have to do now is wait for their response.
