Donate to Kibei Giving Circle to support API voter engagement!

In its third year, Kibei seeks to support multi-ethnic coalition building, leadership development, programs that empower young people and women, and cultural work in Washington’s Asian American/Pacific Islander communities. On the cusp of vibrant presidential campaign season, we are excited to launch the Kibei Giving Circle for 2016!

This year, we are proud to select APACEvotes as the recipient for the 2016 Kibei Giving Circle. APACEvotes is dedicated to increasing access and participation of APIA voters, and the organization is right now hiring its first full-time staff. In this election year, it is crucial that we mobilize the API community to use their political voice and provide outreach to APIA unregistered voters. According to recent Census data, “just 56 percent of eligible Asian American citizens were registered to vote in 2012.”

We hope you will consider making a personal donation again this year to help shift this trend locally and support APIA civic engagement and activism.

It’s easy to donate: you can donate online here: https://app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/SocialJusticeFund/donate.html (include “KIBEI” in the memo section ). There is no minimum gift amount and any amount that is meaningful to you will be greatly appreciated! We would also greatly appreciate any company matches and can provide you with a receipt.

Thank you for being part of the national AAPIP giving circle movement and our grassroots effort to support our local community in ways outside of institutional giving. Please join us and give today!

In case you want a little more background on Kibei Giving Circle:

Kibei in Japanese means “go home to America” and expresses the “translocal” diversity that defines our community. We hope that you will be able to contribute in our efforts to increase awareness and support of the AAPI community by contributing to our Circle.

Last year, we gave general support grants of $6,600 each to two organizations: Got Green, a grassroots advocacy group dedicated to an equitable green economy led by people of color, in particular 27% API representation, and Kinnaly (Lao Heritage Foundation), comprising 60 second-generation Lao American youth who promote and share the art of Lao traditional music and dance and their leadership development following the loss of their founding director.

Our inaugural year provided grants of $4,122 each to two organizations: Coalition for Refugees from Burma, now serving nine different refugee communities in addition to Burmese, and Tasveer, a South Asian arts organization that produces the South Asian film festival and women’s public dialogues.

All of these organizations primarily rely on volunteers and our collective gifts enabled them to expand programmatically and increase fundraising capacity.
