Houseplants add natural beauty to any home. Not only do they add beautiful elements to your décor, but also they add an air-purifying element to your space. You don’t necessarily need a green thumb to successfully grow houseplants, either.

You could continue to purchase the same houseplants you’ve seen for years. However, there are some magnificent choices that are as unique as you. If you feel like you’re stuck in a houseplant rut, let’s look at some unusual houseplants to add to your space.

Some unique houseplants are easier to care for than others. Our list includes some that someone with a brown thumb can successfully grow as well as some that require a green thumb. Here are five of our favorite unusual, unique houseplants.

1. Nerve Plants

The Nerve Plant (shown above) is indigenous to South America. It has vibrant leaves that led to its name. The markings on the leaves look like nerves.

The Nerve Plant is not terribly difficult to grow, but it’s more difficult than a typical beginner’s plant. This plant likes to be in an atmosphere of low humidity. It doesn’t thrive in cold drafts; it prefers warmer, dry air.
