Back to happiness vs joy. This excerpt from David Brooks provides a framework for thinking about your current career role or your industry. He says, “Happiness usually involves a victory for the self. Joy tends to involve the transcendence of self. Happiness comes from accomplishments. Joy comes when your heart is in another…The core point is that happiness is good, but joy is better. It’s smart to enjoy happiness, but it’s smarter still to put yourself in situations where you might experience joy.”

Is your career on a path that brings you regular happiness and could lead to experiencing joy? We spend a lot of our waking hours at work, so happiness and joy are worth consideration.
