iPhone 14 Singapore - Early is an understatement.

Days before iPhone 13 series was released, Jon Prosser – main leaker at Front Page Tech, FPT, “Fuh-puh-Tuhh” … Toilet Squad!!

Sorry, let's get back into it. Jon, the main leaker at Front Page Tech, shows us a render of iPhone 14 (Pro Max) in one of his YouTube videos, one whole year earlier!

I am bamboozled throughout the video and so much more regarding the new speculated design.

Disclaimer: What we are about to discuss are all speculations and predictions I gathered from the net. The end product may look different, so take it with a pinch of salt.

The “NEW” design

The leaks and rumors circulating the iPhone 14 are pointing to its design outlook. It’s worth pointing out that Jon mentioned that he has only seen the “iPhone 14 Pro Max” specifically.

While the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 lineups clearly took inspiration from the iPhone 5, with the nostalgic flat edges, the renders from Jon proposed the iPhone 14 will instead go down the iPhone 4 design route.

That means we could see round-shape volume buttons, titanium rail sandwiched between two flat glass, and mesh speaker grilles.

The renders also address two of the iPhones lifelong annoyance for many iPhone fanatics: the notch and the camera bump.

Time to go Notch-less

Back in March 2021, veteran Apple Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported that Apple is preparing to move its TrueDepth System towards an under-display environment and enabling future iPhones to move into a Punch-hole design.

Personally, the notch on the iPhone has never bothered me in any way. It may appear irregular when I first switched from my iPhone 7 Plus to the iPhone 11, but after a while, I just get used to it.

However, there had been many users complaining about the wonkiness and how out of place the notch is.

Bye-Bye Bump

Just as how similar the iPhone 14’s design is to the iPhone 4, the rear camera bump will also be removed – well, not really removed, instead the camera module will have a flush design with the rest of the back piece.

This “redesign” is actually quite surprising and to be honest, I don’t vibe with it.

However, this could happen for a simple reason. Considering there had been rumors that the iPhone 14 could have a 48MP 8K camera module, which means larger camera sensors and bigger camera bumps — bigger than the ones on the iPhone 13.

Apple could increase the thickness to match the thickness of the camera bump resulting in a design where the camera module sits flush with the rest of the back, all on the same plane.

That being said, there’s also a possibility that Apple could adopt the periscope lens technology which, in turn, will result in a smaller camera bump.

But another one of Kuo’s reports pegged that the technology is still in development for the “iPhone 15” instead.

What I think of the iPhone 14

To be honest, it is still hard to say for sure the leaks mentioned will or will not happen in 2022.

In my opinion, a punch-hole would make the iPhone 14 half-Android half-iPhone look alike and it doesn’t fit Apple’s style when it comes to designs and originality.

It also doesn’t make sense for Apple to redesign a smaller notch on the iPhone 13 and then go notchless in the next lineup release. Also, under-display 3D facial recognition technology is still not mature enough for Apple to adopt.

All in all, take rumours with a pinch of salt and keep expectations within boundaries and keep calm, we are still one year away from the iPhone 14 release anyways, a lot can happen along the way.
