The Chipotle Rule
Why I don’t eat at Chipotle
Chipotle is good, but I refuse to eat there anymore.
There’s nothing wrong with Chipotle. I know if I go to Chipotle every day, I’ll have a good meal every time, but that’s the problem.
It’s just…good.
Chipotle will never provide me a phenomenal experience — there’s a ~100% chance I’ll have a good experience and a 0% chance I’ll have an amazing one.
If I eat at Chipotle, I’m not taking enough risks in my life. I’m settling for good.
By forcing myself to go elsewhere I’m increasing the variance.
I’m taking a risk.
The likelihood that I eat at a bad restaurant increases. The expected value of my daily meal likely decreases too. Chipotle is pretty darn good — definitely above average.
I don’t want good in my life though. I want something more.
I want amazing life experiences.
What do you want?
