The Coconut of Our Humanity
As humans,
We are constantly reminded that we’re not good enough
That we’re not strong enough
That we’re not pretty enough
Nor smart enough.
That we have everything to lose in our quests for change of power
For perfection
For love.
Maybe we aren’t inspired by the right aspects of our humanity
Maybe,
Our humanity envelopes us so much that we’re so caught up in so little
And we forget our divinity
Maybe that’s the way the world is supposed to work
But we are not of the world, are we?
Maybe we should be mangoes;
Pretty and delicious
But also easy to peel away and discard.
Oh but we are better alright
We’re better than pretty
We’re better than smart
We’re better than strong
And we’re better than good.
We’re hope and love all in one package
We are our own constant reminders that
We Are Coconuts.
Of course we may be called “ugly” or “earthy” because of our brown and rough
But inside that precious shell of ours
That hairy ugly rolling shell,
We possess and provide the greatest of our beauty
We are milky inside.
We are sweet on the inside.
And we are filled with so much flavor;
So much worth;
So much purposes that we can’t ever quantify.
We really are coconuts.
A mystery.
