Update: Week of October 16th
This week was spent discussing assumptions and experiments. One of our deadliest assumptions is that people might not even want to prepare together. We know that star neighbors as we call them will want to participate because this was clear from our research. However, people in the community who aren’t as social or involved might hate or product and not want to use it. We need to test whether this is true or not, I believe the best way to do this would be getting a group of neighbors, consisting of both types, together in a room. At a high level if this is possible then we will know neighbors are at least willing to be social with one another. Once there we could ask them specific questions about our product idea possibly with a working prototype.
I feel much better about our direction this week. Something about it feels more solid than it did when we started with the idea of a community prep tool. I can rally behind this idea and I believe it is the correct direction to pursue. I spent time yesterday reevaluating our SAM SOM & TAM. They now read:
SAM: Star Neighbors and HOAs in San Francisco
SOM: People at risk of earthquake disaster in California
TAM: Communities at risk of any large scale life threatening disasters (natural or man made)
